Born in East London in 1985, he moved to Cape Town in 2000 and studied Art History at the University of Cape Town (BA and Honours). He catalogued fine art at the auction house Stephan Welz & Co and worked at Everard Read before creating Chandler House, a space in which to curate and create with “wild and expansive abandon.” His own work moves between ink and paper, lots of cobalt blue on porcelain tiles and hand-painted ceramic platters, has been shown at the South African National Gallery. Michael is globally known for his blue and white ceramic epic murals. One of the largest of his works graces the facade of Cult Gaia's store in the Miami design district. Michael gets booked up years in advance for his ceramic platter commissions commemorating special places and events to lucky clients.

It is a dream to have Michael in this collection as it is in fact his fault that we are all here in the first place! Michael introduced me to ceramics 8 years ago and witnessed this all take off for me. Michael also owns a huge collection of Shellegance and has been selling them through his marvellous shop Chandler House in the Bo-Kaap for years. It is Michael's wit that first pronounced my work Shellengant and here we are! Michaels strength as a painter is so obvious and famous, he has painted two powerful shells for this auction, both have very fine detailing and sgraffito as well as deep intense cobalt blue areas. Thank you Michael!
