She studied graphic design before moving to Dublin, later returning to South Africa to establish and run her own textile design and decor business. She eventually transitioned into painting and ceramics full time. Her work is characterised by a tactile sensibility and a fearless use of colour. Drawing on a longstanding fascination with colour, material and surface, as well as her background in design, textiles and ceramics, Sera approaches art-making as both a sensory and exploratory process. At the heart of her practice is an interest in the tension between order and chaos, and in what can emerge when emotion, instinct and material curiosity are allowed to take the lead. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eSera and I went to the same high school and I have looked up to her since I was a teenager as a cool girl from the older class! Sera is a prolific artist in Cape Town, and we reconnected at Anthony Shapiro's marvellous ceramic studio. Her shell is covered in a midnight blue flower meadow. It is so beautiful, We will be sad to see it leave the studio!
