Christa Botha is co-founder of Bofred, the Cape Town design studio she launched in 2014 with Carla Erasmus. Both share a love of travel and a background in fine arts, and together they design and make furniture, lighting, mirrors and mohair rugs and blankets that sit between art and function, using natural materials such as wood, clay, stone and metals. From their showroom in East City, they champion the skilled Cape Town makers, artisans and manufacturers who bring each collection to life. Shellegance collaborated with Bofred to make Shell-F an electrical light sconce which is available through the Bofred website.

Christa has recently moved back to the Cape after many years living in the middle east, and her shell reflects this Middle Eastern/Persian inspiration she had immersed herself in. Another interesting fact is Christa is my husbands first cousin and so I am lucky to not only hang out for a crafternoon, but also for family events and Christmas'!!! Christa's style and storytelling are much admired by me, and her shell is an extremely special addition because we are so happy to have her back home for these kinds of shenanigans! Dankie!
