Lot_18_Hannah Watts
Hannah Watts is a ceramicist and designer behind Silo Studio; creating vibrant, patterned homewares inspired by the tropics and Kente cloths from Africa. Informally trained in ceramics while living in Cape Town, she hand-throws and hand-paints vessels, platters, lamps and candlesticks using the sgraffito technique, drawing on South Africa and African textiles to build colour-and-pattern “dreamworlds” of place and memory. Her instinctive approach embraces imperfection, and her work is stocked by galleries and shops including Chandler House in Cape Town and Toast in London.
Hannah asked to intern at Shellegance while she was on holiday in Cape Town, When I was looking through her beautiful website I wondered if I should not rather intern for her! Anyways Hannah applied some of her magic to shellegance last summer and I was thrilled to catch her to paint her signature Kente cloth ceramic on a shell, it is so cool and elegant (both Hannah and the shell!)
Dimensions: 18 x 18cm
Every shell is wired by George Magaso, ready to hang directly on the wall from a nail.
