Lot_29_Kirsten Sims
Kirsten Sims is a painter and illustrator based in Cape Town. Her narrative work explores connection, often with a gentle, self-aware parody of the lives people portray on social media, set against natural landscapes. A graduate of Stellenbosch Academy (BA Applied Design, 2011) and Stellenbosch University (Honours in Illustration, 2014), she has created editorial and commercial illustration for The New Yorker, Airbnb, AD Magazine and Apartamento, held solo exhibitions in Cape Town and Toronto, and published a children's picture book, Balthazar The Great. Her philosophy is “one thing leads to another.”
Kirsten is an artist I admire so much, like so many of us out there always scrambling to see if anything is available from her instant sell out shows. In a past life we had an absolute JOL ( this means party) at a Little gig festival and I am thrilled to call her a friend, even more thrilled with this incredible seaside scene ( possibly Muizenberg where she has her studio) she painted in her signature style for the I am Water Foundation.
