Joëlle Joubert is a painter who works by collecting: objects, images and encounters alike, “as a means of taking note.” Painting, in her words, is a way “to bear witness,” and her work turns to loss, mortality and the environment, and to the relationship between the world outside and the one within, with the reminder that “the logic of loss is also about renewal.” Her virtual exhibition A Broken Heal was presented through the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town, and her work has been shown by THK Gallery.

It was such a pleasure to have Joëlle in studio to paint shells together, a gifted painter, her mystical Venus woman, painted in moody dark green is such a wonderful addition to the auction and it is so fun getting to know young artists especially my people: the painters!
