Lot_41_Michaela Younge
Michaela Younge is a Cape Town artist who makes richly layered felt tapestries, embroidered and built up with found objects. Her scenes set the childlike, from nursery rhymes to baked goods, against something darker, and she starts each work from an idea or a character, then builds the rest of the scene around it, leaving small mysteries deliberately unresolved. Her work has moved from fantasy towards domestic scenes with human emotion at the centre. She had her first solo show, Nothing Bad, in 2019, and took part in the 1-54 African Art Fair in London that year.
Michaela holds the current record for the longest time to paint a shell ( 6 hours) and this really shows in her fine detailing and perfect delicate flowers. Needless to say but we are HUGE FANS of all of her work.
Dimensions: 28 x 15cm
Every shell is wired by George Magaso, ready to hang directly on the wall from a nail.
