Pierre Vermeulen’s practice explores how unconscious desires and projections materialize in the world through ritual, symbolism, and transformation. Drawing on ancient philosophy, Jungian psychology, and meditative traditions, his process merges performance and alchemy—where bodily materials such as sweat and hair, alongside gold, silver, and cast forms, become vessels for psychological and spiritual inquiry. Pierre lives and works in Cape Town. His most recent exhibition ‘Deeper - Deeper’ 2026 was with Reservoir Projects, Cape Town.

It has been such a pleasure painting with Pierre! His shell is painted in layers and layers of underglaze and stains applied and removed, scratched and thrown on, the result is an extremely beautiful abstract shell that feel celestial, in glorious greys and pinks, Dankie!
