Rosie Mudge was born in Knysna in 1988 and lives and works in Cape Town. She trained at the Michaelis School of Fine Art (BAFA with distinction, 2013) and makes large-scale paintings alongside sound, installation, photography, drawing and sculpture, using everything from nail polish, glitter and YouTube clips to silly string, resin and automotive paint. Her work investigates materiality, gender and intimacy, and subverts feminised ideas of glitter by treating it with reverence in imposing works. She has exhibited widely with SMAC Gallery, co-founded the project spaces Cubicle and Jnr in Cape Town, and was a featured artist in Motherhood: Paradox and Duality at the Iziko South African National Gallery in 2025.

I always knew who Rosie Mudge was but a chance encounter on the other side of the world whist both staying at the incredible Villa Lena in Italy ignited a treasured friendship. Rosie's shell is painted so tenderly and confidently, the brush marks and edge detailing make this an exquisite shell! Thank you Rosie.

Dimensions: 26 x 16cm
Every shell is wired by George Magaso, ready to hang directly on the wall from a nail.
