Ruby Wheeldon is an artist whose practice is grounded in the idea of the assemblage, in which everything is its own individual self yet also a piece that contributes to something larger. Their project Becoming a World is an experiment in world-building and changing perception, inspiring care for the earth and a more compassionate, understanding and environmentally conscious way of being. Their themes include interconnectedness, environmental consciousness, self-compassion and personal identity, and their virtual exhibition and catalogue are hosted by the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town.

Ruby entered my studio for a crafternoon thanks to Senga after I had asked her for some next generation artists so that this collection is not all oldies like me :) I love that Ruby chose our new starfish inspired shell, which is also our youngest shape, and I love their whimsical painting, is it a bird? is it a star? Fiery waves? or coral? it all comes together in a beautiful and unique shell, Thank you so much Ruby!

Dimensions: 22 x 18cm
Every shell is wired by George Magaso, ready to hang directly on the wall from a nail.
